The Policy Service provides cross-site authentication (Single Sign-on) user experience; utilizes Active Directory for user/role/profile repository; and guards application according to centralized authorization management at operation level of applications.
The services are provided through a login page to end-user and a series of web service methods. Instead of directly consuming the web service, web applications can take advantage of Policy Service agent deployed with web applications.
Policy Service agent talks to Policy Service web service; acts as a guard protecting resources against un-authenticated or un-authorized requests; it provides APIs for applications to query user/role information.
There is no coding requirement in using Policy Service for authentication and authorization.
